Jau,
after we had quite a good start with filling the wiki with content I am
not going too far saying we now reached a point where we can clearly
figure out the real use of such a web service for our project. And this
real use is definitely not writing a design document and translating the
resources in countless languages.
Then and now I still agree with having an english only wiki with just a
few exceptions which are important for players. Developers do not have a
chance contributing to UH without speaking english anyway. Might even
make more sense to translate our website. Articles relevant for players
could also be posted there.
Of course I also agree on getting rid of the four language starting page
and replace it with one single english main page while linking articles
in different languages multiple times tagged with the according flag
image. But before doing this we should really think about which articles
have to be part of the wiki and which we could evacuate to our website.
This could make all the thinking about how to deal with different
languages quite redundant.
The next step should be to figure out which resources need updates, can
be fully removed or are not up to date, but are still worth to be kept.
Although we quite finally decided to drop the design documents, because
most decisions were made on the fly in IRC or could now rather be
discussed using the mail list, I think we should keep them somewhere as
some kind of backup resource. Apart from me killing everybody deleting
it after the shitload of work I have invested in the english document.
The idea of setting up a whole new wiki I feel uncertain about. Could be
much more work starting new than just cleaning up the existing content.
A specifications article for graphic artists most probably will have to
be written by me. kaschte is very proficient with getting something
done, but I am pretty sure he is happy to let me write the theoretical
stuff ;)
For the time being,
Andreas
